Dr. Todd M. Wolfe

Welcome

About

Dr. Wolfe started his professional journey in technology in 1997, one year after graduating high school. It all began at a small market research firm in Kinderhook, NY, which provided him with an initial opportunity for data entry. Within a few short months, Dr. Wolfe used this opportunity to its fullest and began learning about the backend system used to collect data. At the time, he was unfamiliar with databases and the programming language used by his company. However, he discovered one night while working late that the system had a built-in help manual. From there, it all began.

Dr. Wolfe used the help manual to learn the system his company was using was Visual Fox Pro (3.0 at the time). The help manual allowed Dr. Wolfe to know that the system collecting the data contained a collection of stan-alone database tables (DBF files), supported both DBASE & SQL commands, and was built with an Object Orientated Programming (OOP) language. Dr. Wolfe took the knowledge he gained from reading the manual and quickly began applying it in his role with the company. He then moved into a Quality Assurance role (QA), which required DBASE commands to verify the quality of the data captured. In this role, he quickly began demonstrating new perspectives to his senior staff members on analyzing the data using DBASE and SQL commands unfamiliar to them.

After a few short months in the QA role, Dr. Wolfe advanced to the data processing department as a jr. programmer. In this role, Dr. Wolfe quickly learned valuable skills that became the core foundation for his career. Most would expect these skills to be SQL and OOP. Albeit these technical skills were essential to the work, they were not the most important. During this time, Dr. Wolfe began to learn the meaning of the proverb, "If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime".

When Dr. Wolfe was learning to become a programmer, there was no vast collection of forums on the internet like StackOverflow. There were, however, some online groups for Visual Fox Pro. Fortunately for Dr. Wolfe, he learned as long as he could pose a question with some sample code and examples, this group proved invaluable to his growth and learning. Additionally, he did have the added benefit of contacting some of his former peers with questions from time to time. What this taught Dr. Wolfe was survival instincts to use any resources available to get the job done. Most importantly, Dr. Wolfe learned how to be comfortable in asking questions to lead him to invaluable solutions.

While working in the field in 2000, Dr. Wolfe completed his bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) from SUNY Albany.  A few years later, he enrolled in SUNY Albany's MBA program, which he graduated in honors from in 2005. Dr. Wolfe then began his second part-time career as an adjunct college professor in 2006. As an adjunct, Dr. Wolfe always dreamt of someday completing his doctorate. This opportunity presented itself in 2018 when one college began offering grants to faculty members to complete additional programs. Dr. Wolfe quickly took advantage of this grant and completed his doctorate in Computer Science specializing in Big Data Analytics from Colorado Technical University (CTU) in the Summer of 2021.

Through the years, Dr. Wolfe has held many titles, achieved countless career accomplishments, and continues to be recognized as a thought leader in the information technology field. He has worked in market research, retail e-commerce, government healthcare contracting, banking, independent consulting, and insurance. Most importantly, Dr. Wolfe strives to share his knowledge and experience with others who desire to succeed in the technology field. To date, it is estimated that Dr. Wolfe has taught over 15,000 students over the past 15 years! Today, Dr. Wolfe strives to continuously advance the skills of others while continuing to grow as a leader in the field of technology.
